Allen Coombes

Allen Coombes Allen is Botanist at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Hampshire where he has a special interest in Quercus as well as in the taxonomy and nomenclature of woody plants generally. He is a member of the RHS Conifer Registration Advisory Panel, the International Dendrology Society's Scientific and Education Committee, and the IUCN-SSC Global Tree Specialist Group. He is also BSBI referee for Quercus and has recently been appointed as President of the International Oak Society. He has written several papers on the taxonomy and nomenclature of woody plants and is the author of several popular books on trees and shrubs. He has travelled extensively, leading tours and collecting in many parts of the world, and is currently involved in oak conservation work in Mexico.
